Do you know someone who’s been incarcerated?
Have you witnessed the emotional and spiritual toll incarceration takes on an inmate and his or her loved ones?
Each time a prisoner writes to Dismas Ministry and requests our Catholic scripture, faith, and prayer materials, it is a sign of hope – for the individual, their loved ones, and the community. It speaks to that person’s desire to seek the Gospel, and begin or strengthen a life of faith.
For men and women behind bars, many struggle to find meaning and dignity in their lives. Phil, a prisoner, lived most of his adult life behind bars. His family struggled to help him, while he served time for the crimes he committed.
Here is an excerpt from a letter Phil, a prisoner, wrote to his brother, Tom:
I wish there was more to talk about from my end. I feel out of touch not by years but by decades. The contact I do have with you and the rest of the family does keep me going. I think of things lost. But maybe I will be able to show for something after this is over.
They say it’s never too late.
Thank you for being there for me as a human contact from beyond these fences. I’m lucky that I have someone out there who cares.
Your prayers and special gifts enable us to provide life-giving resources to prisoners, like Phil. It is only with an open heart and mind that one can be transformed. And, the fact that prisoners write to us demonstrates their desire to find a new path…to imagine a renewed purpose in life… to hope.
We need your prayers and financial support if we are to continue to provide spiritual care to the imprisoned – to give them a reason to hope. Will you help us by making a gift today?
With your support, your act of love will lift up men and women who seek God’s love and mercy.

Will your employer match your donation to Dismas Ministry? Every gift we receive is significant in funding our mission to provide free materials. Doubling your gift means we expand our efforts to provide the word of God to those behind bars.
With matching gifts, it is possible to double or even triple your gift. Many employers sponsor matching gift programs and will match most charitable contributions made by their employees. Some companies even match gifts made by retirees or spouses. Please check with your employer TODAY to see if they have matching gifts and double your efforts.
