Your gesture of kindness will help lead a prisoner toward the light and love of Our Savior, Jesus Christ.

This Advent, as we prepare for the celebration of the birth of Our Savior, Jesus Christ, we are filled with anticipation for what our world desperately needs right now. In a word, it is light.

For those impacted by incarceration, the holiday season may evoke difficult emotions. Prisoners may experience heightened feelings of isolation and depression. Family members may feel increased sadness, stress and frustration (or anger) toward their loved ones behind bars.

At Dismas Ministry, we see an uptick in letters from inmates. We see more requests for our Catholic faith-based resources from chaplains and prison ministers. And, more family members seek support for themselves and their families. People affected by incarceration are looking for ways to connect.

When we receive letters from men and women behind bars, it is our practice to verify their contact information before we send packages to them. These public record searches often include a photo of the incarcerated individual. When I see these photos, I think of their mothers.

As a mother, I had specific dreams for my now-adult children. And I wholeheartedly believe that no one anticipating the birth of a child hopes for a path that leads to incarceration. When I see a photo of each inmate who writes to us, I know that someone in their life – a parent, a grandparent, a spouse, a child, or a grandchild – wants something different for them. There is still time, there is still hope…and the possibility to choose another path.

Your support of Dismas Ministry helps us as we, in turn, lift up our brothers and sisters behind bars. Together, we open a door for spiritual awakening and journeying to take place. Will you help us this Christmas? Will you give the gift of hope to someone who has lost their way?

Please consider making a contribution to Dismas Ministry today. Your gesture of kindness will help lead a prisoner toward the light and love of Our Savior, Jesus Christ.

As we wait in joyful hope…we, at Dismas Ministry, wish you a Christmas filled with light and love!

With gratitude,

Ms. Tyler Curtis
